Can some whizz tell me what the capital of California is? You subscribe this question and the classroom is completely silent, so as a teacher you start calling on students and non the ones that perpetually answer but the ones who hands are not up and trying to hide behind other students. You get the far-famed replies My hand was not up or I do not know. Sometimes they just tell you to go earlier and tell them the answer but we know that that leave behind not help them at all. You start to ask yourself How do I make them want to raise their hands? and How can I get them to know the information? or just How do I respond to students like this? These are hard questions to answer but with the right teaching techniques these can become questions that you will no longer have to answer.
During my completion of the Philosophical sound judgement in Kauchak & Eggen: Chapter 7 (Examining Your Beliefs) I discovered that my school of thought of education was perennialism, which states that school should teach classic knowledge in preparation for future life. I solely agree with this so I came up with three ways to respond to the students in the scenario created for us. MOTIVATE!!!! Motivation plays a big part in a students ability to want to follow and also how they learn.



I think that a lot of students leave out motivation for varies reasons. Sometimes its not the information that is stipulation to the students just how they perceive it. One way to answer those questions is simply motivation. The higher a students motivation train is the more they would want to participate and learn more. You can slowly motivate a student by offering one on one tutor sessions, looking at the students as individuals and not as a whole, just learning your students as a person is motivation in itself.
