Reflective paper Research Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Reflective - Research Paper ExampleThe fear over environmental sustainability arises because the global population of about ten jillion people must decently feed and shelter without damaging environment, (Goodland, 2002, p. 1). The possibility of sustaining this size of population while keeping the environment intact is lean because the kindly and frugal needs of this population size exceed the carrying capacity of the environment, (Marquart-Pyatt, 2010). More importantly, the economic sector (the corporate) is the chief culprit in derailing environmental sustainability.I confide environmental sustainability directly affects economic sustainability because economic growth derives its inputs from the environment, (Goodland, 2002, p. 2). This relationship has implication on the natural resources that sustains the economic growth. Economic growth is infinite but the ecosystem that supports the economic growth is finite. This means that economy continues to grow in terms of rate of p roduction and consumption of products while the environmental capacity from which raw materials are derived corpse constant or reduces with increased extraction. However, part of this limited environmental capacity, the renewable resource, has ability to replenish, (Goodland, 2002, p. 2). Renewable resource partly provides mechanism of adopting environmental sustainability. The other portion, non-renewable resource, inadequacy ability to replenish. Implementing environmental sustainability policy is challenging because only part of the whole environment is able to replenish whereas the depletion process affects both.In respect to this, I would protrude three rules for environmental sustainability. The first is the rule for the output, which stipulates that the quantity of waste emitted from a social or economic activity must be within the receptive capacity of the local environment without compromising its subsequent absorptive capacity for similar wastes

The Europeans had failed to change the farming dodging of the Northerners for several years. My thought was, the natives of the east and the north had resisted the European farming system for several years. There are several religious systems in America such as Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. The native Indians in America had their religious believes before the flood tide of the Europeans. Slave trade had existed in several European countries before they colonized America. Some of the slaves were taken to work on plantations in America (60). These slaves were captured from different regions in Africa and some from Asia. It could be possible these religious beliefs were introduced by the interaction between the slaves and the American natives. Christianity was dominant among the Europe ans, and it was spread across the world. This means that the Europeans introduced Christianity to the Americans and the slaves introduced other religions. Some of the slaves settled permanently in America and had to establish their places of worship. In the second half of the fifteen century, the eastern section of America had begun building the 13 colonies, and Virginia was established in 1607. This shows that as Europe and the Ottoman Empire were dominating, America was advancing. The Americans had acquired architectural design skills from the Europeans. Historically when the Ottoman Empire controlled the Mediterranean, they took silk, spices, porcelain and other valuables from Europe. Applying the same to America, Christopher Columbus was not scarcely looking for a shorter route to china but was also looking for valuable skills and spices in Europe (78). Immigration in America Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Immigration in America - Essay ExampleAmerica, in other words, is an admirable place to live and it is a mistake for those who currently wish to take extreme measures to restrict immigration to assume that all immigrants come to this country scarce for the money.A common misconception among those who are the most vehemently opposed to lax immigration laws is that people from other countries-especially Latin American countries-put their lives and freedom on the groove to influence the difficult and dangerous go so that they can take good jobs away from native Americans. The facts, of course, are that most immigrants take jobs that most native-born Americans would just as soon avoid maids, gardeners, slaughterhouse employees, fast food cooks, etc (Waters & Eschbach, 1995). It hardly seems logical to assume that most foreign residents are not already aware that these are the kind of jobs they bequeath more than equally wind up taking. If that experience is firmly in their hands and they still consider the journey to America worth the risk, then surely it is valid to raise the question that there must be something besides the promise of a big paycheck in a glamorous job that brings them here. If the debate over illegal immigration that has heated up to a near-boiling point in recent historic period is based upon the idea that quality, high-paying jobs are being taken from American citizens and given to illegal aliens, then those who are framing the debate should review the reality of the situation. to a lower place that debate is the kernel of an idea that Americans would be less outraged if these immigrants arrived via legal means and took the proper steps toward becoming legal citizens, but would that really make any difference.Immigrants who come here both through legal channels and illegal channels cannot be so easily distinguished. There is literally no Anglo-Saxon who could look at a Latino or Asian and individuate between who is the legal and who i s the illegal alien. Discrimination against immigrants isnt based on the knowledge of who has a green card and who doesnt, but rather purely on physical features. It is this fact that prompts an overwhelming agreement among US citizens to a statement like why should they immigrants pull themselves up by the bootstraps, become productive members of our society, and assimilate into the American culture when government policies make it easy for them not to do so(Mcgrath, 2005). Assimilation for most of those in favor of tightening immigration laws means just one thing speaking English, paying taxes and staying off welfare. The fear that immigrants will destroy the American economy by becoming a drain upon the social services is misguided. America lags far behind most of the world in offering social services such as universal health care coverage and paid education logic does not apply when do the suggestion that most immigrants come to America to take average of the welfare state. Sin ce the Reagan era, in fact, social service revenue for native-born residents has consistently been on a downward slope. Immigrants looking for a free ride in should set their eyes on Scandinavia, not America. (Greenwood, Mcdowell, Waldman & Zahniser, 1999, p. 64). The money argument simply does not range up what immigrants have historically come to America for are the intangible

Immigration - Essay ExampleFor others it will be shown how they feel that immigration has become a looming problem at heart the country and increases the risk of terrorist activity within America. Overall, my conclusion will demonstrate how the fall in States has hallmarked itself in the world with invitations to foreigners to enter into our country for better opportunities, and a recoer for a higher quality of life, therefore we have only brought the current problems with immigration onto ourselves with no one to blame but our own government.Across the twosome of time, the outcome of war and conflict has been the vehicle of transmute for nations and its population. The outcome of regional hostilities directly affects the positive and negative outcomes of established civilizations. Immigration is an element of population change and is define as the movement of throng from one nation to another with the intention of attaining permanent residence during a certain period of time. Immigration is defined as the process of people permanently leaving a nation or region to settle in another for better opportunities, improved life, and to phase on their dreams for the future. America has represented itself to other nationalities as a place of peace, hope, and a better life, leaving the invitation open to come and immigrate to this land (Heaney 1977, pg. 15). Therefore, the United States, in reality, has no one to blame but themselves for the escalating problems that are associated with immigration issues today.People immigrate to improve their economic situations, avoid political or ghostlike persecution, or as a result of war displacement. According to the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services personnel, American immigration patterns indicate that approximately xx percent of all immigrants to the United States relocated as a result of war displacement(Artingstall 2003). In past times, there were triple major groups of people that migrated to the United States between 1950 and 2000 the Jews after WWII, the Asians after the Korean Conflict and the Vietnamese after the Vietnam War. Although, recent immigration continues to occur and increase the population of America, the above three armed conflicts have brought new immigration policy changes and the largest amount of immigration movement since 1945. Even so, more recently the immigration problem has been with Hispanics crossing over illegally and also due to the conflict in the Middle East which has brought many Arabs migrating to the United States, enlarging the threat of terrorism in many peoples minds. It would seem that every time a war or conflict takes place it has brought about gigantic changes for the United States. For example, World War II brought about a vast population of people migrating from Europe to the United States. Although, the United States was spared the physical land damages other countries had experienced during the war, many major changes were oc curring in cities across our nation. The turn of new factories, military bases and housing created

If the perpetrator is not set free, we will consequently find ourselves on the other side of the law since we took marijuana and utilise it instead (Barker, 2006).In this scenario, as a parent it is not fair to both the school and the child to assist the child in his assignment. Theoretical Paradigms Essay Example for Free

Theoretical Paradigms EssayIntroduction Theoretical paradigms allow sociologists to analyze effectively near any dimension of union. It is a set of fundamental assumptions that guides thinking and research. Two among the three paradigms in sociology that I want to compare and contrast in impairment of their strengths and weaknesses of their explanatory value for accessible inequalities are the Conflict Approach and Functionalism Approach. The Conflict Approach is a theoretical frame cultivate based on the assumption that nightspot is a complex system characterized by inequality and conflict that generate social change. This blast complements the functional approach by highschoollighting not consolidation but social division. This approach strength is that it guides sociologists to investigate how factors such as social class, race, ethnicity, sex, and age are linked to unequal distribution of money, power, education, and social prestige. Therefore, sort of than identify ing how social structure promotes the operation of society as a whole, this approach focuses on how these patterns benefit some people darn being harmful to others. On the other hand, the functionalism Approach is a framework for building theory based on the assumption that society is a complex system whose parts work together to promote stability. The functional approach strength is that, it makes two assertions. The first holds that society is composed of social structures, meaning relatively stable patterns of social behavior. complaisant structures range from broad patterns, including the family and religious systems, to face-to-face behavior like waving hello. The second is that each social structure has a social function, or consequences for the operation of society as a whole (Marx, 1984). Moreover, the functionalism approach has long been influential in sociology. The positivist root in this approach is the tendency to see the social world as stable and orderly. The job of sociologists, from this point of view, is to employ scientific research to learn how society works.Despite its strong influence on the find out of sociology, however, recent decades have revealed the weaknesses of this approach. By assuming that society ope grade more or less naturally, critics point out, the functionalism approach tends to overlook how social patterns vary form manoeuver to place and change over time. Thus, the notion that any particular(prenominal) arrangement is natural seems hazardous at best. By focusing maintenance on societal unity, critics point out, functionalism tends to overlook divisions based on social class, race, ethnicity, and sex activity, and to downplay how such division can generate tension and conflict. In addition to its weaknesses, functionalism emphasis on stability and tends to minimize important processes of social change. Further, by emphasizing social desegregation, the functionalism approach tends to pay less attention to divisio ns based on social class, race, ethnicity, and gender and to downplay how such divisions often generate tension and conflict. Overall, then, this approach takes a conservative stance toward society. The conflict approach, on the other hand, has developed rapidly in recent decades. Yet, like functionalism, it has a number of weaknesses. One, this approach highlights power struggles, it gives little attention to social unity based on functional interdependence and shared out values. Another, the conflict approach advocates explicitly political goals in its drive for a more egalitarian society, thereby giving up claim to scientific objectivity. Supporters of this approach counter that all social approaches have political consequences, albeit different ones.An additional weakness, which applies equally to both the functionalism and conflict approach, is that they paint society with broad strokes, describing our lives as a composite of family, social class, gender, ethnic group, race, an d so on. Hence, both functionalism and conflict approach share a macro-level orientation, meaning a concern with large-scale patterns that characterize society as a whole. They take in the big picture, as one might investigate a city from the vantage point of a chopper high above the ground, noting how highways facilitate traffic flow from one place to another or the striking contrasts between rich and poor neighborhoods. These approaches limit their attention to large-scale structures and processes while overlooking the details of everyday life (such as the interactions that occur in a particular bar on a particular day at a particular hour). Macro-level orientation takes various forms those who adopt a conflict approach see large-scale social patterns in cost of how they impose themselves on the behavior of individuals. That is, they try to describe characteristics of society as a whole in ways that illuminate patterns of interaction among individuals. Those who adopt a functiona lism approach ask how the large-scale patterns of society as a whole contribute to the integration of society.Conflict sociologists find that the distribution of people among position (or statuses) affects decisions dismantle as personal as the choice of a marriage partner. Tepperman Curtis (2004) use two characteristics of societyheterogeneity and inequalityto predict rates of intermarriage (that is, the absolute frequency of marriage involving people from different racial, ethnic, or religious groups). Heterogeneity refers to the level of sameness or differentiation within a population heterogeneity is high if a population is divided into many different racial, ethnic, or religious groups it is low if most of the people are the same in these respects.Inequality refers to the distribution of valued resources such as wealth or education. In a society with high inequality, such resources are concentrated in the hands of the few, while the majority has very little left to divide am ong themselves inequality is lower when these resources are divided more evenly among people in a society. harmonize to Tepperman Curtis, higher rates of heterogeneity and inequality encourage people to interact with people different from themselves, and this interaction in turn increases the rate of intermarriage. It follows that higher rates of heterogeneity and inequality generally promote rather than discourage intergroup relations of all kinds. The behavior is predicted from the structure of the society itself rather than from the beliefs and attitudes of individuals. The level of integration of a society is a consequence of the distribution of people among social positions (that is, of the amount of heterogeneity and inequality). The functionalists take a different perspective on the large-scale integration of society. These sociologists see society as composed of specialized institutions patterned behaviors and status/role relationships that fulfill basic societal needs. For example, economic institutions are responsible for mobilizing odd resources in order to produce and distribute goods and services that people need. Dissimilar institutions are held together in an ordered whole because each is assigned the tax of satisfying a particular societal need each contributes to the overall functional integration of the society itself. Without families, for example, new generation would not be socialize to the dominant values and norms of the society. As a conclusion, both the Conflict Approach and Functionalism Approach envision society in abstract terms, which sometimes seem quite an distant from our everyday experience.ReferencesMarx, K.
