Gilgamesh is nowhere near a hero at the jump of this long epic. At the beginning of
the epic Gilgamesh is cardinal thirds god and one third man. Gilgamesh is a tyrant of the urban center Uruk
that he had built and created himself. The novel starts with Gilgamesh being a feared prescript who
was known for his terrible deeds. He sacrificed the towns flock for entertainment; he raped the
wives of newlyweds, and killed whoever he wanted. He was feared for good reason so the
townspeople prayed for someone of equal power to come and hold back them from his injustice tyranny.
Thats where Enkidu comes in. Enkidu was created by the gods, more thanover he was raise in the wild by
the animals. He was discovered by a hunter who found Enkidu disturbing his t

intentions. The two heroes did the field a favor by killing the guardian of the cedar forest. The

rejecting her so she sent to bull to punish him. The bull wreaked havoc or the city of Uruk and
killed many people. Gilgamesh and Enkidu saved the entire city by killing the bull.
Taking a life
may non be heroic, but taking a life to save hundreds of lives seems worth it.
Gilgamesh was not a hero throughout the entire novel. In the beginning he was a
murderous tyrant who raped and killed his people, but people can change. People obligate to be
willing to change and have a reason to change. For Gilgamesh, Enkidu was that reason to
change. Enkidu was created by the gods because of the prayers from the citizens of Uruk to end
Gilgameshs evil tyranny. In a way Enkidu did just that. When Enkidu stood up to Gilgamesh at a
wedding to keep Gilgamesh from raping the bride he was defeated by Gilgamesh. Enkidu saw
