The development of children with autism spectrum disorders.
For the last year I demand been working at Fraser Minneapolis in a day noise program for children with autism spectrum disorders. The children range in age from 2 eld to 6 years of age. Fraser is a nonprofit organization that helps families dealing with autism. Autism is very a spectrum of developmental disorders. This spectrum includes but is not limited to horrendous autism, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Aspergers syndrome.
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are described as being pervasive developmental disorders characterized by lifelong impairments in communication, social reciprocity and the presence of continual or restrictive behaviors and/or interests (Kanne, Gerber, Quirmbach, Sparrow, Cicchetti & Saulnier, 2010). Autism is more universal in males then females and is believe to be linked genetically to the Y chromosome (Stewart, Carr & LeBlanc, 2007). When working with individuals with autism or with their families, it is extremely outstanding to understand the many issues involved.
