Molokai
The Molokai island is an exploration of true hawaiian culture. More than 50% of the population of the island are indigenous population. This mostly undeveloped island of how-do-you-do is truly a treasure. The local residents try consistently to contain and protect their land and culture to be able to luck it with those that visit the island. It is a truly different atmosphere than virtually of the popular islands where tourism has saturated their beauty.
My family is native hawaiian in origin and Molokai is the island that we call home. I have always love the fact that tourism has not touched this island. The island is not often different than it was 50 years ago. The people of Molokai are worry one big family. Everyone knows each other and their families have been on the island for generations. It is not unusual for visitors to be invited to a luaua being held by one of the families that live on the island.
Though it is not a popular destination,the beauty of the nature attracts many to the island. Here you foot admire the Worlds highest sea cliffs, hidden waterfalls and deserted beaches. You will be amazed by the waterfalls that have been carved through the volcanic valleys and marvel at Papokaku beach, the largest white sand beach in Hawaii.
You can take a tour of Kalaupapa peninsula. Kalaupapa was the village that people suffering from leprosy, also called Hansens disease, were sent to. The village was virtually unfeasible to look at out of as it is surrounded by manifest cliffs on its northern edge and water. At its peak, over 1200 men, women and children were exiled to this island. now Kalaupapa is a national historic park, accessible by mules.
On Molokai, there is an atmosphere of love and friendliness. Visitors can feel the hospitality with every resident you encounter. You can get a very real view of the people and culture of the island.
