Diffusion and osmosis be processes that are constantly occurring in cells and tarradiddle for much of the passive fitment of molecules (Lab Bench Activity). Diffusion is the extempore movement of molecules along a concentration slope; from an celestial sphere of higher concentration of those molecules to an area of lower concentration. Water potential is the measure of free energy of water in a solution (T. Goldberg, Deborah). An example of osmosis occurring would be if a red family cell is placed in fresh water.
There are more free water molecules outside the plasma membrane then inside the cell, so osmosis occurs; water diffuses through the blood cell, causing it to swell and burst (Lab 1 Osmosis).
Diffusion of scurvy molecules can be observed through dialysis tubing, which serves as a selectively permeable membrane. Small solute molecules and water molecules can move freely through a selectively permeable membrane, alone larger molecules will pass through more slowly, or perhaps not at all (T. Goldberg, Deborah). The movement of a solute through a selectively permeable membrane is called dialysis.
