The character, Richard Saunders, that Ben Franklin invents for his Poor Richards Almanac serial is very humble to be given the chance to circumstances his view with the public. Franklin pretends that he is poor when he writes, The plain honor of the matter is, and I am excessive poor... . This seems declarative mood of the era due to that fact that readers needed a all-embracing explanation as to what happened to the closing guy, something we do not see today. Also, he gives the exact day and time the last article will appear for Mr. Titan Leeds.
The almanac, according to Franklin, is a public service and he provided valuable information to help his fellow man or at least that is what he tied to convince the readers in his letter. Likewise, publication such as an almanac is a reflection of how communication is changing by directly influencing the lives of people.
Moreover, I believe Ben Franklin uses the pen name of Richard Saunders for the almanac because Franklin was very popular and that may have influenced the public into all buying it or reject it, depending on their feelings towards him.
