Compromising Happiiness

Have you ever seen the advertisements for McDonalds burgers? The food is glamorous, almost standardised it should be on a red carpet. However, in globe the burger you receive is less then perfection. The pattie is small and the buns be squished; you got your hopes up for nothing. The general dispute made by William Shakespeare is that things are not always as they seem, similar to the MacDonalds burgers. In the quest for happiness, the lust for power causes the characters to make decisions that agree their happiness.
One of the ways the characters in Macbeth compromise their happiness is that they happen into the trap that power sets for them. When Lady Macbeth hears the news about the terce witches prophesy and of Duncans arrival to her home, she tells the audience ,The raven himself is ill-humoured /that croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan/ under my battlements (1.V. 39-40). The idea of murdering the king comes considerably for Lady Macbeth once she realizes that she would be made the Queen of Scotland, merely what she doesnt recognise is that she may experience the consequences of the crime afterwards on in life.



Lady Macbeths happiness is compromised when the guilt feelings of Duncans murder sends her into a fit of fear and anxiety, causing her to take her own life. Another example of a character falling into powers trap is when Macbeth becomes jealous of the prodigy given to Banquo. Banquo believes that the prophecy the three witches provided him with will come true, as is evident when he says, But that myself should be the root and father / of many kings. If at that place come truth from them/ as upon thee, Macbeth, their speeches shine/ why, by the verities on thee made good/ May they not be my oracles as well / and set me up in hope? (III.I. 5-10).
